Here is a neat tip taken from Healthy Living from the Inside Out by Mariel Hemingway:
Decaffeinate any tea yourself by pouring in the hot water, letting steep for 15-20 seconds and tossing the water. This removes 80-90 percent of the caffeine from the leaves. Then pour in more water and steep for several minutes to get your beverage.
Of course, there are a lot of herbal teas that are naturally caffeine free. My favorite one, made by Celestial Seasonings, tastes like caramel and is a nice desert substitute. It is called English Toffee and I probably should buy stock in the company since I drink it every single day!
If coffee is more your thing, make sure to purchase SWISS WATER PROCESS coffee rather than the chemically decaffeinated type. And remember, decaffeinated tea has way less caffeine than decaffeinated coffee.
For many of us, who have spent a lifetime absuing our adrenals with a nonstop, hyperactive lifestyle, cutting down on caffeine is a prerequisite to better health. I definitely notice a difference in the quality of my sleep since drastically cutting down my intake of coffee. Studies on whether caffeine is good or bad are contradictory, so I don’t think a small amount is really harmful and could even be beneficial, but for me, less is definitely better.

Hi Laurel,
Great tip–I rarely drink “regular” tea, but if I do, I’ll be sure to pour and spill first. The CC English Toffee tea is one of my favorites–have you ever tried the Bengal Spice? Lovely with a little soymilk (almost like chai).
Thanks so much for your comment on my blog–much appreciated! As to millet, it’s worth trying, I think–very mild (almost tasteless on its own), but it has a nice texture and is so healthy I’ve been feeling I should find more uses for it myself!
