Toronto Restaurant Review – Fressen

So the kids went to Grandma’s house and my spouse and I looked at each other with absolutely no idea what to do. We mulled over all the many possibilities for our unexpected free time and finally decided to visit an old favorite, from our carefree child-free days, for brunch – Fressen on Queen Street West. The decor has been updated and it is more elegant now with soothing earth tones giving a relaxing vibe. The service is much as always (pretty slow) but we weren’t in a hurry so it was okay. We had to ask for the mini muffins that everyone else seemed to be given without a word, but other than that we had no complaints about our server.
We both decided to have a “griddle” plate, which consisted of a choice of entree, either scrambled tofu (a bit too salty) with onions and peppers and a crispy tortilla with black beans or deep fried corn fritters. I chose the former and my spouse chose the latter so we could try both items. The platter was huge and came adorned with chunky home fries, salad, guacamole with salsa and garnished with watermelon slices. The fritters were a bit too greasy for my taste, but my spouse really liked them.I was really disappointed that they no longer serve their famed soy latte, which so many people have raved about. All in all, we found Fressen to be a very relaxing place for brunch and would recommend it, especially for someone looking for a hearty vegan breakfast.3 1/2 out of 5 stars
