Food ART Life – one of my small, painted from life oils – cherry tomatoes in sunshine! |
How did your 2 week abstention from the evil sugar and (for some people) wheat go?
I found it pretty easy to do and the tiny amounts of natural sugar I took in were from fruits, with the small exception of 2 tiny squares of dark chocolate on two occasions. I feel I did pretty well sticking to the plan and didn’t let my minor transgressions throw me off the path. I feel slimmer and more energetic after my two week vacation from wheat and sugar, so I am going to try and continue to eliminate sugar from my diet and keep wheat to an absolute minimum. I suspect both these foods may be causing me some problems – perhaps a little intolerance is happening in my digestive tract.
A few words about tomatoes! I am so looking forward to the fresh ones we will be experiencing in a month or two, but for now, I find the small campari type quite tasty. There are some people that find nightshade vegetables (including tomatoes, peppers, potatoes and eggplant) problematic in that they feel it aggravates their arthritic joint pain. If you suspect you may be one of those people, consider a 2 or 3 week period without them, introducing them after that to see how you feel.
For everyone else, tomatoes are a fruit and are a great source of Vitamin C, Vitamin A and a lot of other nutrients. They also contain lycopene (which gives them that rich color)especially in cooked form, so it is good to enjoy them both raw and in cooked food. If you buy tomatoes off the shelf, choose a glass jar to avoid the Bisphenol A (a hormone disruptor) that leaches from the lining of tins.
