Today is the first day of our cleanse – look around and appreciate the view! |
Some of you may be familiar with inspirational cancer survivor Kris Carr. I just received her most recent newsletter, which I thought serendipitously aligned with the sugar part of our detox:
Want to know what I’ve been craving a lot? Sugar. Want to know why?
Because a bunch of cookies found their way into our cupboard and
eventually into my tummy. Though I don’t normally have a sweet tooth, I
found myself making mindless pantry raids.
Next we received some awesome vegan chocolate as a
gift. I mean, delicious. “Why not grab a cookie and some chocolate
since I’m passing by the kitchen anyway?” No big deal. But as the week
went on (and the next week followed), I noticed a habit forming.
Everyday at around 4 p.m. my body told me it was time for my “treat.”
That’s why I call sugar: “crack.”Then I began noticing some zits, decreased
energy, irritability, restless sleep, and well, I just felt itchy. Not
to mention, at age 40, I started to get really bad migraines, and let me
tell you, sugar does not help. It sorta feels like giving myself brain
surgery with an ice pick!I know what sugar does to the body. For the love
of Jesus, I wrote a whole chapter on it in “Crazy Sexy Diet,” but I had
forgotten just how powerful a drug it is. Funny enough, I was telling a
member of my Crazy Sexy team about what I was experiencing, and she
started to giggle: “No way! I just cut back on sugar, and my skin is
clearing up, I lost a few unwanted pounds, and my energy is regulating.”Exactly!

I call sugar "crack" too and I do admit to being an adict to it some days. Thanks for sharing, I do subscribe to her newsletter.

Yeah, me too – I am really hoping going off it in a big way will help me beat my "addiction" to the sweet stuff. Love Kris Carr, great attitude and she has really turned her life around with diet.
