Today, I went to the Health Food Store and bought a Neti Pot.
What is a Neti Pot, you ask?
Well, it is sort of like a small, ceramic teapot with a tiny opening in the longish spout which is used to pour salt water through your nose.
I know, sounds gross. However, people have been doing it for thousands of years. Irrigating your sinuses can help prevent infections and if you are prone to sinus problems, this is a great idea that can keep you away from antibiotics and the doctor!
You need to fill your Neti Pot with lukewarm salt water, using one level teaspoon of sea salt per half liter of water. Lean over a sink with your head to one side and pour the liquid through the top nostril. It is not painful at all and actually kind of interesting to see that when you pour water through one nostril, it comes out the other one.
Make sure to relax and breathe through your mouth as you proceed.
Repeat on the other side.
The final step is making sure to dry your sinuses by GENTLY blowing your nose a few times.
