It was a sunny day – one of the first really nice days we have had during our rather miserable spring here in damp, grey, cold Toronto and I had an irresistible urge to get out of town and have an adventure. After catching a Tweet about lemon cupcakes by Kelly Childs, owner (with daughter, Erinn Weatherbie) of Kindfood, a fairly new vegan cafe in Burlington, Ontario, I decided today was the day I would finally check out this year old restaurant. With the price of gasoline being what it is these days, it was a rather expensive cupcake!
This place is absolutely charming, with colorful decor and an atmosphere overflowing with love of animals and our planet, but you don’t need to be vegetarian or vegan to enjoy the delicious food. In addition to the lunch items and amazing baked goods, there is also a refrigerated case with healthful groceries to take home.
A couple of other patrons recommended the Happy Buddha Bowl and the OMG Grilled Cheeze! Sandwich, but I decided to order the scrumptious Tao Tempeh Reuben, made with Daiya vegan “cheese”, for lunch. I guessed the secret marinade – you should go try one and see if you can figure it out too! I have to say, I think it was the best veg Reuben I have tasted!
