Take some time to smell the Spring flowers! |
Congratulations! You have made it through a whole week on your Spring cleanse! I hope you are looking and feeling great.
I thought I would talk about getting healthy routines into your life today. Maybe you can incorporate some of these ideas into the second week of your detox.
One beneficial morning routine is to always drink a glass of water (room temperature) with the juice of half a lemon shortly after getting out of bed. This helps your liver and digestive system to function well.
A green juice next would be ideal. I like a combination of greens like kale, celery, asparagus stems, cucumber and/or parsley with half a carrot or beet and some lemon or lime.
Finally I would have some green tea and a protein smoothie with berries, coconut milk (sometimes a combination of flesh and water from a fresh, young thai coconut), almond milk (or just throw a small handful of soaked almonds in there), maca powder, 2 T. powdered, sprouted flax or chia powder, 1/3 banana, ice and sprouted rice protein powder (Sunwarrior is my fave).
Here are a few food items to consider skipping for at least a few days:
1. Animal products – meat, fish, eggs, poultry
2. Dairy
3. Alcohol
4. Caffeine (other than that found in green tea, unless you are unusually sensitive)
5. Soy (fermented is probably okay, such as tempeh)
6. Grains, especially those containing gluten
7. And, of course, SUGAR!
I am planning to up my game this week and eliminate all gluten containing grains.
Try introducing these foods back into your diet gradually (other than sugar, which should be banned from your diet as much as possible), one at a time, so you can gauge your body’s reaction. You may discover some sensitivities you were not aware of previously. Stabbing pains in your gut after eating a bran muffin when you have been on a cleanse for the past couple of weeks may be a clue that you are either wheat or gluten intolerant.
And here are a few positive things to think about adding to your life:
1. Organic foods (especially important for animal products)
2. Light physical activity – stretch/strength movements (pilates, stretching, yoga) and walking
3. Saunas and baths – soothing and detoxifying
4. Hydration – drink green tea (antioxidants) and water throughout the day
I hope some of these tips for healthy living will help you continue on the path to optimal health.

I've got the Kale ready to juice to tonight before dinner.
Although I had a bit of sugar during last week I know I can remove. Thanks for your detox ideas, great blog.

Thanks! Just being conscious is the first step and progress not perfection the goal since we don't want to feel we have fallen off the wagon and thus give up altogether!
