Restaurant Review: Raw Aura in Mississauga, Ontario

First thing, I have to apologize for the horrendous quality of this photograph. It was taken with my cellphone in low light, but I thought you might like to see an example of the food we enjoyed a few days ago at Raw Aura, an organic, raw food restaurant in Port Credit, Mississauga, Ontario.

If you go to their website you can peruse a sample menu and see some of the amazing choices for a delicious, raw lunch or dinner, although I think the menu we had was different.

Wm enjoyed a pasta bolognese, which consisted of spiralized zucchini with a rich tomato sauce. I had a burrito in a coconut flax wrapper with salsa on the side. We shared and both were very tasty. I loved the presentation on big square and rectangular white platters.

A lot of the patrons were enjoying big glasses of organic wine. They also have teas and smoothies that sounded really yummy, including one called “Creamsicle” that has hemp milk, coconut, orange and vanilla.

Of course, we had to sample some of the deserts. Shown here is a trio consisting of strawberry cheesecake, chocolate mint pie and pecan pie. All three were really delicious, but rather rich and filling after enjoying the main course. I think maybe splitting just one would have been a better idea in retrospect.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is quite cool, with tables made of varnished cross cut logs. It feels more like a downtown cafe than a suburban spot. It was pretty busy when we were there and seems quite popular, so call ahead for a reservation, especially if there are more than two in your party. If you have a big group, ask for the cozy window seat at the front.

The service was friendly and really quick – no cooking, just assembling, means no long waits for the food!

Next time I want to try the “macaroni and cheese” which is warmed in the dehydrator and sounds quite intriguing!

  1. Hey Laurel,

Raw Aura sounds wonderful – had no idea about that restaurant!

In answer to your question – there is a moon pie creation that has been around since the 50's, and the one i was talking about is a raw version (although pretty different than the original), served in NYC.

Hope you'll been mooning with us! 🙂

    XO

Apparently we now have five raw food restaurants in the Toronto area. A new one just opened in St. Lawrence Market – "Cruda".

The next one I want to try is "Live" at Dupont and Bathurst – I have heard it is marvelous!
