Raw Mango Orange Protein Balls With Secret Bone-Building Ingredients – Almonds & Prunes!

IMG_3511.JPGThese nutrient-packed treats make a yummy snack or dessert. If you have kids, get them involved – they will love rolling the balls and are more likely to be on board with eating them if they are part of the process.

Studies have shown that prunes have a beneficial effect on bone health, most likely due to the high concentration of polyphenols (an anti-oxidant) that they contain. Almonds are also great for bones, since they are an amazing source of calcium.

Raw Mango Orange Protein Balls

INGREDIENTS:

10 prunes, pitted
1 c. almonds
1 T. coconut flour
2 T. protein powder (I used Garden of Life Raw Protein in Mangolicious)
pinch of sea salt
Zest and juice from a large orange
3 T. coconut oil
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2-3 T. shredded medium unsweetened coconut

METHOD:

  1. Combine prunes, almonds, coconut flour, protein powder and sea salt in a large food processor. Process until almonds are broken down to a crumbly texture.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients (orange zest, orange juice, coconut oil, vanilla, sea salt) to the food processor and process until thoroughly mixed and a ball of dough forms.
  3. Pour out coconut onto a plate. Using a tablespoon, scoop out dough and roll between hands to form balls. Roll the balls in the coconut and place in a container that has a lid. Store in covered container in the fridge – they will firm up a bit. You can also wrap individually for grab and go convenience!
  4. Makes about 16 – 1″ diameter balls.

*OPTION: RAW VANILLA CARAMEL PROTEIN BALLS!! For a different flavour, use medjool dates instead of the prunes and vanilla protein powder in place of mango!
