Clear Your Sinuses!

Today I am on the tail end (hopefully) of a miserable cold/flu/sinus infection. After spending a couple of days prostate with a high fever wondering what my kids are up to, I have discovered a fantastic cure for sinus congestion. I have had ongoing issues with this problem and because I am reticent about popping pills. I have tried snorting salt water, steam baths, homeopathic and herbal cures and drinking apple cider vinegar. All of these seemed to help a bit, but I am very enthusiastic about my new discovery, which is Tomato Tea.

Tomato Tea is really more like a hot bloody mary (sans alcohol) or spicy soup than a tea and contains tomato-vegetable juice, garlic, cayenne pepper, lemon juice and a touch of honey.

My version of the drink involves heating the tomato-vegetable juice in a pan on the stove and blending a small amount of water with the raw garlic, freshly squeezed lemon juice and a teaspoon or so of Miso, which is chock full of flavour and nutrients. Since there is more nutritional value in raw ingredients I then pour the blended mixture into the hot tomato juice and drink up. Oh yeah, the key is LOTS OF CAYENNE to get your nose draining.

Try it – it works!

  1. This was originally my recipe on earthclinic.com. Out of curiousity I sometimes check to see if the recipe is spreading on the internet, because I know its the best cure out there, and so many people suffer from sinus problems. Just makes me feel good to know I could help and that more people are learning about it! 🙂

Just for the record, this tomato tea has cured sinus and ear infections, sore throats and even strep throat, and bronchitis… all of which doctors will tell you cannot be cured with antibiotics. Horse patootie!!! What do they think people used before antibiotics came along?

I’ve never used honey in mine, but I can see the benefits of adding that, both for flavor and its healing properties… nice addition! 🙂

    Hi Triana,

I can’t remember exactly where I read about tomato tea. I was suffering and searching on the internet for natural cures and I think I stumbled upon a forum discussion of some kind as I remember scrolling through all kinds of testimonials to the effectiveness of the mixture.

Another variation that I think is important, and easy to do, is to stir in the lemon juice after heating, in order to preserve more of the Vitamin C.

Thanks very much for your comment!
